A young professional was referred to me through our shared network. He'd been to therapy before, but he wanted to see if coaching might be helpful for this. His performance review was stellar, he'd received several raises in a short time, yet he watched a colleague get promoted.
He felt snubbed. Overlooked. The story he was telling himself was about unfairness and politics. He was interviewing at other companies and motivated to take a new position asap.
After a few of our meetings, he gained the courage to approach his boss for an open, informative conversation. What his boss shared was good news that explained everything. There was a new position they were creating specifically for him - a huge leap in responsibility and another nice raise. The colleague's promotion was unrelated to his trajectory entirely.
Talking to a coach isn't always about solving problems. Sometimes it's about digging in and building the courage to ask the questions we're afraid to hear answered.
Does the sound familiar to you?
